The American Academy of Dermatology has issued its first-ever guidelines for the prevention and management of atopic dermatitis in children. A working group of 14 experts, including 11 board-certified dermatologists and one pediatric allergist, developed the guidelines, which also address supplemental strategies and therapies. The guidelines state current research does not support special diets or skipping baths to prevent eczema, and there’s insufficient evidence or no benefit to dietary or environmental strategies, such as introducing food early or avoiding dustmites. Twenty-six evidenced based recommendations were made for prescription and non- prescription topical therapy, as well as phototherapy and systemic therapies.
“These guidelines were developed to educate and empower patients, caregivers, and the medical community so children with eczema receive the best care possible” said Dawn Davis, MD, FAAD, co-chair of the AAD's Atopic Dermatitis Guideline Workgroup. “Since 2014, the landscape for eczema care has been transformed by the approval of new therapies for adults. Our goal was to review how these advancements relate to the pediatric population so children also receive optimal, individualized care.”

ASA Launches Public Education Podcast
The American Skin Association is launching a public education podcast series designed to bring expert insights to patients with common skin conditions. Funded by a grant from Sun Pharma, each episode of SKINsight Podcast: A Patient’s Guide features a dermatologist host, a guest expert dermatologist, and a patient sharing their lived experience.
“Our goal with this podcast is to provide clear, trustworthy information to help patients navigate their care journey with confidence” said Nicholas Brownstone, MD.
“Each episode simplifies complex topics and shares real patient experiences, offering accessible, relatable insights on diagnosis, treatment, and physician communication.” “By meeting patients on platforms they use every day, we ensure that accurate, science-based information about skin health is available to those who need it most,” said Howard P. Milstein, chairman of ASA.
