We understand that hair loss and thinning is an accumulation of multiple factors, this presentation will focus on hair thinning during menopause and results from a first-of-its-kind randomized controlled trial on nutraceuticals.

Originally aired on February 9th, 2021, this Webcast features Dr. Glynis Ablon who discusses age and menopause related hair changes. She also presents results from two studies on the clinical benefits of standardized nutraceuticals on hair in women going through the menopausal transition and beyond.

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection that warrants intervention. It takes approximately 12 to 18 months for a toenail plate to completely grow out. Regardless of the anti-fungal agent used, visible clearance of the infection will occur after the nail-plate turnover is complete. This program will review considerations in onychomycosis treatment and review a therapeutic option.

Dr. Olabola Awosika is a dermatologist in Detroit, MI who recently completed her dermatology residency at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI. She was born in Atlanta, GA and was raised in Rosedale, MD. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in African American and African Studies from the University of Virginia, Masters of Science in Physiology with a concentration in Complementary and Alternative Medicine from Georgetown University, and Medical Degree from Howard University College of Medicine. While at Howard, she focused specifically on care for the underserved populations of Washington, DC. Prior to starting residency, she completed a two year fellowship in Psoriasis and Contact Dermatitis in the Department of Dermatology at George Washington University in Washington, DC. During fellowship and residency, she was instrumental in the creation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Women’s Dermatologic Society and launching their Student Summer Research Fellowship, which aims to cultivate culturally and racially diverse applicants in dermatology. She also served on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committees of the Department of Dermatology at Henry Ford Health System and the House Staff Council for the Henry Ford Health System. Her areas of interest include skin inclusive care, alopecia, pigmentary disorders, dermatologic surgery, and scarring disorders.

Dr. Allais is a current dermatology chief resident at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC. She received her undergraduate degree in History from the College of William and Mary, later completing a Post Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program at the University of Virginia and medical degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She is a current resident member of the Women’s Dermatologic Society where she serves on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and the American Academy of Dermatology where she serves on the Resident and Fellows Committee. Her interests include cutaneous oncology, integrative dermatology, diversity and inclusion within dermatology and resident wellness.

“It’s been a pleasure to work on this novel Atlas project! I have been able to visualize many common and uncommon dermatoses in a wide range of skin tones that I am now able to identify more readily. As a now PGY-2 dermatology resident, it’s helped me tremendously with my clinical gestalt as I see new patients daily. I can only imagine how much this Atlas will positively impact both resident education and practicing dermatologists that may not have much clinical exposure to wide variations of skin types. I’m extremely appreciative of my experience and look forward to more to come in the future.”

At the time of working on the Atlas, Dr. Ezekwe was a Clinical Research Fellow at Henry Ford Hospital System in the Department of Dermatology.
