Abstract
Polidocanol, a popular sclerosant used to treat unwanted leg
veins worldwide, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) in March of 2010. This new treatment option
joins popular sclerosant formulas including sodium tetradecylsulfate,
hypertonic saline and chromated glycerin. Evidence for
the efficacy of polidocanol, its efficacy relative to other sclerosants
and its safety profile is reviewed.
