Dr. Mayoral: The JDD fills a void other journals lack. Good dermatologic literature has something of interest for everyone. For example, there are articles on lasers, basic science, medical dermatology, and information that is invaluable for residents in a section dedicated to them. The Pipeline and Clinical Trial previews give you a peek into the future of our specialty as well. This mix of information creates a foundation for good decisions. I try not to miss a single issue.
Dr. Mayoral: Review articles with summaries of the latest technologies and drug discoveries give doctors a broad overview of the recent advances in particular field. I get to see how some of my colleagues conceptualize their theories and am able to understand the thought processes behind them. It alters my perspective and leads to a good internal discussion. It is valuable information that creates curiosity.
Dr. Mayoral: Like everything in our field quality and diversity of articles has evolved over the years. The ability for any dermatologist to pick up the journal and get a concise, clearly defined overview of the field is priceless. JDD gives that experience. If you're a dermatologist, whether in practice or in training, it's a must read. If you haven't seen the latest issue, you're behind the times.
Dr. Mayoral: That's an easy question. When I confront the need for hard-to-find information or need a broader perspective on a given situation I reach for the JDD, it's an automatic reflex. When I need the latest information in my field of interest, it's always there for me.
Dr. Mayoral: Dr. Perry Robins has a dedication ensuring that excellence in the field of dermatology continues to multiply. The wide distribution of the journal not only helps to disseminate important information about research and clinical practice, but it fosters collaboration and helps to advance the field of dermatologic research and drug therapies. That creates change for the better, and that is the definition of progress.
Dr. Mayoral: I would like to see a broader perspective in the buyers' resource guide. But, again, the JDD does not ignore that facet. It strives to help. No journal is perfect and you too have to work as hard as we doctors do. We respect that.
Dr. Mayoral: When you have proper balance of basic science and review articles like JDD and then add a balanced number of articles on medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and surgery it creates a mix of excellence that appeals to and stimulates the intellect. It's a perfect storm of effective well-written summaries of the latest in our field. That makes our job easier. It makes us able to offer better solutions to our patients.
