JDD’s recent article titled “Topical Steroids Sold as Fade Creams in Beauty Supply Stores: A Danger for Cosmetic Consumers” uncovers a troubling trend: high-potency topical steroids (HPTS), which are only legally available by prescription due to their severe side effects, are being sold over-the-counter in beauty supply stores, disguised as fade creams. These products, containing potent steroids like clobetasol and betamethasone, are marketed to treat hyperpigmentation but can lead to skin atrophy, hypopigmentation, and steroid acne. This article calls out that nearly 93% of beauty supply stores in Miami carried these dangerous products, raising concerns about regional distribution and regulatory oversight. This study highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and stricter regulation to protect consumers from the risks associated with these unregulated skincare products.
