Hyperpigmentation Patients Report Low Satisfaction and Limited Awareness of Treatment Options

A new cross-sectional survey reveals that hyperpigmentation [https://jddonline.com/project-atlas/inclusive-derm/depositional/], especially among patients with deeper skin tones, continues to be a significantly under-addressed concern, with notable gaps in patient education and treatment satisfaction.
Over half of survey participants reported that their hyperpigmentation [https://jddonline.com/melasma/] was more distressing than the original cause. Alarmingly, 41% had never attempted treatment, and of those who had, more than one-third expressed dissatisfaction with the results. Many expected improvement within just 1 to 4 weeks, yet only 16% were “very” or “extremely” satisfied with existing options. Nearly 53% of respondents felt minimally informed about treatment pathways, and sunscreen use and routine dermatologic care remained low across the cohort.
These findings emphasize the urgent need for dermatologists to provide clearer guidance on realistic outcomes, better educate patients on available therapies, and develop more individualized approaches to managing hyperpigmentation [https://jddonline.com/category/dyspigmentation/] , especially in patients with deeper skin tones.
