Are Atopic Dermatitis Clinical Trials Becoming More Inclusive?

Atopic dermatitis (AD) affects over 31 million people in the U.S., disproportionately impacting racial and ethnic minorities who often experience greater disease severity. Yet, are clinical trials reflecting this reality? A recent study analyzed racial and ethnic representation in AD trials over the past five years, uncovering both progress and persistent gaps. While Black and Asian participation has increased, Hispanic representation remains notably low, raising questions about equitable treatment access and trial generalizability. What do these findings mean for the future of dermatologic research—and for patients of all backgrounds?
