Notice how it is not uncommon for darker skin tones to present with a brown-to-black pigmentation of the nail unit or melanonychia mimicking subungual melanoma. Generally, onychomycosis presents with characteristic white-yellow discoloration of the nail plate, subungual hyperkeratosis and depending on chronicity, onychodystrophy with nail plate thickening. Nail ridging, roughness, crumbling, onychocryptosis, partial or complete nail loss may be evident.
