Prioritizing Skincare in Cancer Treatment: A Latin American Initiative

Cancer treatments often lead to skin-related side effects that impact quality of life and, in some cases, treatment adherence. The Latin American Cutaneous Oncology Management (LACOM) project aims to address this issue by providing best practice recommendations for oncology skincare.

Experts from seven Latin American countries developed guidelines emphasizing education, preventive skincare, and symptom management. Their recommendations highlight the importance of hygiene, moisturization, and sun protection using safe, well-tolerated products to minimize skin reactions and support better treatment outcomes.

By integrating skincare into cancer care from the start, LACOM seeks to improve patient well-being and long-term treatment success.
