From the Vault: PLLA‑SCA injections deliver durable cheek wrinkle improvement and high patient satisfaction

We are highlighting one of our popular articles from the vault: a January 2024 read that gains traction due to the trending world of injectables. The article takes a look at a randomized trial comparing injectable poly‑L‑lactic acid (PLLA‑SCA; 150 mg with lidocaine) versus no treatment in adults with moderate‑to‑severe cheek wrinkles. Subjects received up to four monthly treatments and were followed to 12 months; responder rates (greater than or equal to 1‑grade improvement on the Galderma Cheek Wrinkle Scale at rest) favored PLLA‑SCA at months 7, 9 and 12 (66.2% vs 38.6%, 70.6% vs 31.1%, and 71.6% vs 26.1%, respectively; all P less than or equal to 0.004).

Investigators and patients reported marked gains in skin radiance, tightness, firmness and jawline contour, with most participants rating results as natural and expressing interest in repeat treatments. Treatment‑related events were generally mild and no serious PLLA‑SCA–related adverse events were observed.

For clinicians, this data supports PLLA‑SCA as a well‑tolerated, durable option for cheek rejuvenation; review the article for full methods, injection technique, retreatment intervals and safety details before integrating into practice.
