Did you miss it? Last month we released an early online JDD article ahead of its October publication titled “A Brief Report of 13 Cases of Poppers Dermatitis.” This study explores poppers dermatitis, a condition frequently affecting men near the age of 40 who identify as MSM (men who have sex with men), and how it poses distinct diagnostic challenges in dermatology. Linked to the use of poppers containing alkyl nitrite, it commonly presents with erythematous, crusted, and vesicular lesions in the perinasal and perioral regions, and can also appear in distant areas due to spillage. The stigmatization surrounding poppers often leads to underreporting, making it vital for dermatologists to ask about potential exposure when evaluating patients with unexplained lesions. Curious about the management strategies and next steps in treating poppers dermatitis? Read more to learn the key approaches dermatologists can take to ensure effective treatment and patient care.
