Wound Care Is Trending: A JDD Vault Pick on Bensal HP and Repair
This is a must-read article from JDD. Wound care is a hot topic in dermatology and that is why we are pulling this must-read article from the JDD Vault. The paper reports preclinical evaluation of Bensal HP, an ointment containing oak bark extract, salicylic acid, and benzoic acid, tested in murine burn and excisional wound models.
Briefly, the investigators observed reduced early wound expansion in burns, histologic evidence of accelerated wound bed maturation and increased collagen deposition, and some reductions in inflammatory cytokines at selected time points. The authors present these findings as preliminary evidence that Bensal HP may favorably influence the histologic and immunologic wound environment while underscoring the need for additional studies to define translational potential.
